The Chapel

The Chapel is located half-way down Browns Lane in the centre of Saxlingham Nethergate village. The Chapel was ‘planted’ some 139 years-ago in 1887 by the members of Surrey Chapel (now CityGates Church in Norwich.) We are members of the Fellowship of independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC).

We still meet in the original ‘temporary’ building which is remarkably well preserved and is the last remaining 'Tin Tabernacle' in Norfolk. In 2008 the premises were sympathetically extended to provide a modern kitchen, toilets (with disabled access) and an additional meeting room for the expanding number of people attending services and other activities. And in 2025, we were blessed with the opportunity to have the Chapel exterior fully repainted.

Services are held every Sunday at 10.30am and 4.00pm and last about an hour. Everyone is warmly welcomed.

The Family

Ian Masson is the Pastor.  He and his wife Lynda have worshipped at the Chapel for many years. Ian took up his appointment as Pastor in January 2009.  He regularly leads the services and teaches the Bible in a faithful, relevant and contemporary way. There are a number of lay-preachers who come from far and wide to lead services too, and we are also blessed to have members of our own number who have been led and gifted to preach God's Word. The Chapel has a unique atmosphere and is a peaceful place to worship God. During the week there are other regular events and activities too for young and old.

You are invited to come along to the Chapel and can be assured of a warm welcome, reverent worship, enthusiastic singing and a relaxed & friendly atmosphere. Even if you’re not a church-goer or have never been to a small Chapel like this before, don’t let that put you off.  Come along and say “hello”.  We look forward to meeting you!
